Continuing Education for CTEC and the IRS

Upon successful completion of this ONE tax course, California tax preparers will be awarded the maximum annual amount of continuing education hours not only for CTEC but also for the IRS AFSP.  That is, a currently registered tax professional would have their CTEC account credited with 20 hours and their PTIN account credited with 15 hours after completing this CTEC and IRS course.  For more information on credit hours, click here.

How It Works

To get started, all we ask for is your CTEC ID number and email address.

After enrolling, we will send you a link to a web page where you may download the free course materials.*

Once you have the course materials, read them carefully while taking the open-book exam.

Mark your responses on the answer form in the Exam Booklet.

Submit your completed answer form and fee by web, fax, or email.

Get your test results, certificate, and credits shortly thereafter.

* We no longer offer course materials as physical books, but students are welcome to print the electronic course files if they wish to study using hard copies.

50% Discount Until August 29

The course fee is only requested AFTER you complete the open-book exam, so you may freely examine the entire program at no risk before beginning the course.

The course fee, also known as the grading fee, is normally $49.  However, discounts are available depending on when you pass (and pay for) the final exam.

► If you pass (and pay for) the final exam by August 29, then you will qualify for the reduced rate of $24.50 (50% off regular rate).

► If you pass (and pay for) the final exam by September 26, then you will qualify for the reduced rate of $32 (35% off regular rate).

► On September 27, the grading fee will resume at the regular rate ($49) and this will be the course fee for the remainder of the year.

Pass Or Get Your Money Back

Students who do not pass one or more of the course components (federal tax law overview, federal tax law update, ethics, or California) get their money back. Non-passing students may choose to retake the exam, which would mean submitting a revised answer form and paying the applicable fee on the resubmission date. Students have four opportunities to pass the same exam (original attempt plus three retakes).
