Privacy Policy

Welcome to the California Tax School website! We are grateful for your interest in our tax education programs and we hope to make your online experience rewarding and secure.

Your privacy and trust are very important to us. This Privacy Policy describes the information that we collect from you, how we collect this information, and what we do with it after we collect it.

The information we receive about you through this website depends on what you do while visiting our site. We will not obtain personally-identifying information about you unless you choose to provide it.

Non-Personal Information

We use non-personal information to track the use of the website and for other internal purposes, such as providing, maintaining, evaluating, and improving the California Tax School website.

Whenever you use the California Tax School website, or any other website, the computer on which the web pages are stored (the web server) may record the network address of your computer so that it can send requested web pages to your Internet browser. The unique network address of your computer is called its "IP address," and is sent automatically each time you access any Internet site. From a computer's IP address, it is possible to determine the general geographic location of that computer but otherwise it is anonymous.

If you are browsing our site anonymously, we may collect some non-identifying statistical information to help us measure which pages of our website are visited and how long visitors use the site. This information could include such things as your IP address, the time and date, pages entered and time spent on individual pages. Your IP address is not linked to anything personally identifiable.

Personal Information

If you wish to enroll in one of our courses, you may be asked to provide personally-identifying information so that we can respond effectively to your requests and needs. We maintain this information (names, postal addresses, email addresses, etc.) in a password-protected database accessible only to a limited number of authorized personnel.

Rest assured that we NEVER sell the personally identifiable information you provide for financial gain nor do we share such information with third parties for the purpose of sending you advertisements.

You are in complete control of the personal information you provide us.  For instance, you may ask us to remove your personal information from our records.  If this is your preference, please let us know and we will carry out your request as soon as possible.

Email Practices

Rather than supplying personal information through the website, many visitors choose instead to contact us by email to make a request or inquiry.  In this case, we save the email address and whatever other information included in the message long enough to respond to the prospective student.

California Tax School will never sell, rent, lease or give away your email address to any third party. We only collect your email address in order to provide you with the information or services you have requested. California Tax School complies with the CAN-SPAM Federal Law which became effective on 1/1/2004.

To serve our students' best interests, we sometimes find it necessary to send CTEC registration reminders.  The purpose of the email registration reminder is to help our graduates avoid CTEC's costly late fees or, worse, CTEC account closure due to nonrenewal.  Registration reminders always include an "Unsubscribe" option at the bottom of the message.

Online Payments

Our website uses 256-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption – this is the same type of encryption used by large banks to keep your information secure. We serve thousands of students per year, and most of those course participants choose to safely deliver their payment information through our website (after submitting their test information).

Links to Other Sites

This website contains links to other websites, such as IRS.gov and CTEC.org. The California Tax School is not responsible for the privacy practices of these other websites. Visitors will need to check the policy statements of these other websites to understand their privacy practices.

Conclusion

We welcome any feedback you may have about this privacy statement.  We believe that the Internet is an extremely helpful platform in serving our students across the State, but it is by no means the only way of exchanging information.  For instance, you could direct inquiries and requests to our toll-free telephone number rather than using email.  Also, you could submit test information for any of our courses through fax (number is listed on the last page of your Exam Booklet) rather than using the website.
